BABCOCK RANCH Raising the initiative of a sustainable, environmentally sensitive, green community to new heights, Babcock Ranch is the first city planned to be completely powered by the sun, with 100% of its electric needs generated from the largest photovoltaic solar energy facility in the world. By consuming less KW hours than the solar facilities located on the property will produce, Babcock Ranch will become the first city in the world powered by clean, renewable solar energy.
West Palm Beach developer Kitson & Partners and Florida Power & Light Thursday, April 9, 2009 announced a partnership in Washington to build a 75 megawatt solar plant on 400 acres, which will generate all the electricity for a town of 45,000 people in northeast Lee and southeast Charlotte counties.
